Pool Remodeling & Renovation in Tucson, AZ

We remodel and renovate existing inground pools across the Tucson area, from a fresh pebble finish and tile to a new tanning ledge, spa, water features and deck. You see the whole remodel in 3D before we start.

A lot of Tucson homes came with a pool someone else designed. Maybe the finish is rough, the tile is dated, the deck is cracked and hot, or the layout just does not fit how your family uses the yard. A pool remodel fixes that without starting over. We keep the shell and rebuild what you see, touch and use.

Signs your pool needs a remodel

You probably do not need us to tell you. But these are the most common reasons people call:

  • The finish is rough on feet, stained or flaking.
  • Waterline tile is cracked, missing or just looks like 1995.
  • Coping is loose or cracked.
  • The deck is cracked, stained or too hot to walk on.
  • There is no place to sit or lounge in the water.
  • You want a spa, water feature or fire feature you never had.
  • The equipment is old and loud, and you want lights and automation you can run from your phone.

Our blog post on signs it’s time to resurface or remodel goes into what each of these means.

What a pool renovation can include

Every remodel is different. Some people want a fresh look. Others want a pool that works in a whole new way. Here are the pieces we put together most often.

Remodel piece What it changes Learn more
New interior finish Smooth, clean surface and new water color Pool resurfacing
Waterline tile and coping The look of the pool edge Tile and coping
Deck replacement Cooler, cleaner deck in travertine or pavers Pool decks
Tanning ledge, steps, benches More places to sit and lounge in the water Pool design guide
Raised or attached spa Warm water in the winter and a focal point Spas
Water and fire features Sheer descents, scuppers, bubblers, Luxe fire bowls Water features guide
Equipment upgrades Pentair pumps, filters, heaters, lights, automation Pool heating guide

Since the pool is drained and our crew is already there, it is the smart time to do the bigger items. Running new plumbing, gas or electrical once is cheaper than opening up a finished deck later.

Pool remodel ideas that work well in Tucson

If you are looking for pool remodel ideas, here are a few we see make the biggest difference here:

  • Add a tanning ledge. It quickly becomes the most-used spot in the pool, especially with an umbrella sleeve for shade.
  • Swap a hot deck for travertine. It is easier on bare feet in the summer.
  • Add a raised spa that spills into the pool. You get winter use and the sound of moving water.
  • Change the water color. A new pebble finish in a different color can make an old pool look brand new.
  • Add a fire bowl or two. Great on cool desert nights.

Our pool renovation process

  1. Site visit. We look at your shell, tile, coping, deck and equipment, and ask what bugs you about the pool today.
  2. 3D design and VR walkthrough. You see the remodeled pool in your yard before we touch anything.
  3. Line-item quote. You get a written quote that shows each piece, so you can decide what to do now.
  4. Permits. If the work needs one, we handle the plans and inspections.
  5. Drain, demo and prep. We drain the pool and remove old finish, tile, coping or deck as planned.
  6. Build. Our in-house crews handle any new shell work, steel, masonry, tile, coping and deck.
  7. Equipment. New Pentair equipment, lighting and automation go in if they are part of the plan.
  8. Finish and startup. We apply StoneScapes Mini Pebble, acid-wash it at startup, fill the pool and walk you through the first weeks.

How much does a pool remodel cost in Tucson?

There is no honest flat price for a remodel because two remodels can look nothing alike. What drives the cost:

  • Scope. Finish only, or finish plus tile, coping, deck and features.
  • Pool size. More surface means more finish, tile and coping.
  • Shell changes. Ledges, spas and raised walls take steel, concrete and often a permit.
  • Deck size and material. How much deck comes out and what goes back in.
  • Equipment. Whether you keep what you have or upgrade.

Our pool cost guide explains how these choices add up. The best way to get a real number is a free site visit and line-item quote. Financing is available through Lyon Financial and Credit Union West on our financing page.

Why homeowners choose Meraki for remodels

  • Family-owned and hands-on. The owners are on the job.
  • Licensed. AZ ROC #342505 and #352797.
  • In-house crews. Excavation, steel, masonry, tile, decks and hardscape are done by our people, with our own equipment.
  • We design it first. 3D and VR show you the finished remodel before you commit.
  • Concrete pool experts. We only build concrete pools, so we know what is under your finish.

We also want to be clear about what we do not do. We are not a pool repair or service company, so we do not chase leaks or fix broken equipment. We do planned remodels and renovations, start to finish.

Where we work

We remodel pools all over Tucson and the Catalina Foothills, plus Marana, Oro Valley, Vail, Green Valley and SaddleBrooke. Many older pools in these areas are great candidates for a remodel.

FAQ

Pool Remodeling & Renovation questions

Still curious? Call (520) 342-8335 and talk to an owner.

How much does a pool remodel cost in Tucson?

It depends on how far you go. A new finish and tile cost far less than adding a spa, a tanning ledge and a new deck. We design the remodel in 3D, then give you a written line-item quote so you can choose what to do now and what can wait.

Is it worth remodeling an old pool instead of building new?

Often, yes. If the shell is sound, a remodel keeps the hardest and most expensive part of the pool and lets you change almost everything you see and touch. We look at the shell first and tell you honestly what it can support.

Can you add a tanning ledge or spa to my existing pool?

In many pools, yes. Tanning ledges, new steps, benches, raised walls and spas are common remodel additions. We design them in 3D first to see what your existing shell and yard allow.

Do I need a permit to remodel my pool?

Some remodels do and some do not. Adding a spa, changing the shell, or running new gas or electrical lines usually needs a permit. When yours does, we handle the plans and inspections.

Do you fix leaks, cracks or broken pool equipment?

No. We do not offer pool repair or service. Our remodels are planned renovations, like a new finish, tile, coping, deck, features or new equipment as part of the project.

What is the best time of year to remodel a pool in Tucson?

Fall and winter are popular because you are not giving up swim season. Spring books up fast with people who want to swim by summer. Reach out early so there is time to design and pick materials.

Can I finance a pool remodel?

Yes. Financing is available through Lyon Financial and Credit Union West. Our financing page has the details.
