A luxury pool is not about spending the most money. It is about a pool that fits your yard, your view and how your family lives, built so well that every detail feels right. We are a family-owned Tucson pool builder, and we design and build high-end custom concrete pools with our own owner-managed crew.
What does “luxury” really mean in a custom pool?
Plenty of builders call any pool with a waterfall “luxury.” We think it comes down to three things.
Design. The pool, spa, deck, fire, kitchen and landscape are planned as one space, not added one at a time. Sight lines, sun, shade and the view from inside the house all shape the layout.
Craftsmanship. Tile lines that are straight, coping that sits level, raised walls that are square, and water that flows evenly over every edge. These are the details you notice every day.
Equipment that works quietly. Pumps, valves, lighting and automation sized so the features run the way they should, without noise or fuss.
A luxury pool can be compact with great finishes, or large with every feature. The common thread is care in the design and the build.
Luxury pool features we build
Here are the features that most often turn a pool into a resort-style backyard in Tucson.
| Feature | What it adds | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Vanishing edge | Water spills over one edge so the pool seems to meet the view | Needs grade change and a catch basin; best with a view to frame |
| Raised spillover spa | A warm soak that spills into the pool | Raised walls get tile or stone; spa needs heat and valves |
| Sheer descents | A smooth sheet of water from a raised wall | May need its own pump; can be lit at night |
| Luxe fire bowls | Flame at the pool edge or on pillars | Gas line planned during design |
| Fire-and-water bowls | Flame on top, water pouring into the pool | Needs both gas and water lines |
| Glass and stone tile | Color and shine at the waterline and on walls | Glass tile shows craftsmanship, good or bad |
| Premium travertine | Cool, natural stone deck and coping | Stays more comfortable underfoot in summer |
| StoneScapes Mini Pebble | A smooth pebble interior with depth of color | Holds up well to Tucson sun and hard water |
| LED lighting | Color and mood after dark | Pool, spa and feature lights on one control |
For a deeper look at how a vanishing edge works, read our vanishing edge pool guide. To compare interior finishes, see pebble vs plaster vs quartz. Every water and fire feature on this list is also covered on our water and fire features page.
Designed in 3D, walked through in VR
On a high-end build, small choices add up. How tall should the spa wall be? Do the fire bowls block the mountain view from the couch? Is the tanning ledge big enough for two loungers and an umbrella?
We design every project in 3D in your actual yard. Then you put on a VR headset and stand on your future deck. Most people change at least one thing once they see it, and that is the point. It is much easier to move a fire bowl in the design than after the gas line is in. You can see examples of our renderings on our pool designs page.
The whole backyard, planned as one
The best resort-style yards feel like one place, not a pool with things added around it. Because we build more than pools, we can plan the full space together:
- Custom spas, raised or flush, with spillovers
- Outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands placed for shade and flow
- Travertine and paver decks that tie the house to the water
- Tile and coping chosen with the deck, not after it
- Block walls, turf, landscaping and irrigation
- Pony walls to screen the equipment pad, on request
We also build custom pergolas, ramadas and shade structures, and we can install a shade you buy elsewhere on concrete footings set in the ground, planned in the same 3D design as the pool.
Built by an owner-managed, in-house crew
On a luxury pool, who does the work matters as much as the design. We own our excavation equipment, so we control the dig. Our in-house crew handles steel, masonry, tile, decks and hardscape. The owners manage every job and are on site.
That means the person who drew your raised wall is checking the tile layout on it. It also means one team is responsible for the result, from layout paint to startup.
We only build concrete (shotcrete) pools. Concrete is what makes a pool truly custom: any shape, any depth, benches and ledges where you want them, and walls strong enough for sheer descents, spillovers and fire bowls. It also handles the caliche and sloped lots we see all over Southern Arizona. You can follow a real build, stage by stage, on our rectangular pool and raised spa project in Marana or our step-by-step pool building page.
Premium equipment, sized for the features
Luxury features only feel luxurious if they run well. We use Pentair equipment on our pools, including IntelliFlo3 VSF variable-speed pumps and Clean & Clear Plus cartridge filters. Variable-speed pumps run slower and quieter for most of the day, then ramp up when a sheer descent or spa needs more flow.
With Pentair automation, you can switch from pool to spa, turn on lights and run features from your phone. In Tucson, many owners schedule features for the evening, when they are outside and the sun is not pulling as much water from the pool. Read more in our Pentair equipment guide and our pool automation guide.
Lighting is often the feature people use the most. LED pool, spa and feature lights make the yard usable long after sunset. Our pool lighting ideas post shows how to layer them.
Designing a luxury pool for Tucson
A resort-style pool here has to handle real desert conditions:
- Summer heat. Travertine decks, shade planning and a tanning ledge with an umbrella sleeve make the pool usable in July.
- Monsoon storms. Dust, wind and debris hit features and fire bowls. Placement and easy-to-clean designs help.
- Hard water. Tucson water leaves scale on tile and on the lips of sheer descents. Good finishes and water balance keep them looking sharp.
- Caliche and slopes. We own heavy equipment and build in concrete, so hard ground and grade changes are part of the design, not a reason to say no.
- HOAs. We provide the 3D design and site plan for your approval package.
How we build a luxury pool
- Site visit. We walk the yard, check access, slopes and views, and talk about how you want to use the space.
- 3D design and VR walkthrough. We shape the pool, spa, features and backyard until it feels right.
- Written, line-item quote. Each feature is its own line, so you can choose what matters most.
- Permits and HOA. We handle the plans, submittal and inspections, and give you what your HOA needs.
- Build. Our crew digs, sets steel and plumbing, shoots the shell, then builds the walls, tile, coping, deck and features.
- Finish and startup. StoneScapes Mini Pebble goes on, the pool is filled, and we show you how to run everything.
Every pool barrier we build is at least 5 feet. Every contract includes a written warranty schedule for our labor and workmanship, and manufacturer warranties pass through to you.
What does a luxury pool cost?
Most new custom pools we build run about $40,000 to $120,000 or more. Luxury builds with several features, like a vanishing edge, raised spa, fire bowls and a full deck and kitchen, usually sit toward or above the top of that range. Our pool cost guide explains the main cost drivers, and our financing page explains how to apply for a pool loan.
The fastest way to a real number is a free design and quote for your yard. For a standard build, see our custom pool construction page.
