Rectangular Pool with Raised Spa and Travertine Deck in Marana, AZ
A clean rectangular pool for a newer Marana subdivision yard, with a raised spa at the far end, a stacked-stone raised wall along the back of the pool and a travertine deck that runs from the covered patio to the water. Every stage, from layout paint to the first fill, was handled by our own crew. It also has an in-floor cleaning system.

How we built this Marana pool and raised spa

Step 1 of 6
Pool layout and excavation in Marana
We painted the pool outline on the bare Marana lot, then dug it with our own equipment and set wood forms around the edge, with the steps cut into the shallow end.

Pool plumbing and steel rebar
Plumbing lines for the drains, returns and spa jets went in next, and our crew tied a steel rebar grid through the whole pool and spa to the engineered plans. This pool has an in-floor cleaning system. You can see the extra pipes peeking up through the floor steel: each one becomes a pop-up cleaning head that pushes dirt toward the main drain, so the pool does most of its own cleaning in the dusty Tucson monsoon.

Shotcrete shell with the raised spa
The shotcrete shell formed the pool, the steps and the raised spa walls in one structure, so the spa and pool move together as one piece of concrete.

Spa bench, jets and the raised wall
With the shell set, the spa got its seating bench and jets, and we built the raised wall that later received the stacked stone veneer.

Travertine pool deck
Our hardscape crew laid the travertine pool deck from the covered patio out around the pool while the shell was still open.

Interior finish and first fill
After the interior finish went on, the pool was filled for the first time beside the finished travertine deck and raised spa.

The finished pool pairs the raised spa and stacked stone wall with a warm travertine deck, a layout that suits many newer Marana subdivision yards.
