How we built this freeform pool in Marana
Every photo is from this one project, in the order it was built. Tap any photo to see it full size.
- 01
Step 1 of 5
Freeform pool layout and excavation
We marked the freeform outline in orange paint, then dug it with curved forms following the edge, so the shape in the ground matches the design.
- 02
Step 2 of 5
Shotcrete shell with a sweeping entry step
The shotcrete shell formed the curved walls and a sweeping entry step that wraps into the pool.
- 03
Step 3 of 5
Raised wall with mosaic tile and stacked stone
Coping went on around the curves, block went up for the raised wall, and our tile setter covered it in stone-look mosaic tile, with stacked stone pillars and travertine caps at each end.
- 04
Step 4 of 5
Travertine deck and artificial turf
Travertine went down from the covered patio around the pool, and our crew installed 82 oz artificial turf around the rest of the yard for a low-water, low-maintenance backyard.
- 05
Step 5 of 5
Interior finish
The interior finish went on, leaving the pool ready to fill.
