How we built this east Tucson outdoor living space
Every photo is from this one project, in the order it was built. Tap any photo to see it full size.
- 01
Step 1 of 3
Hardscape layout
We painted the new paths, seat walls and patio on the ground and walked the plan with the homeowner. Marking it out first shows how people will move through the yard and where the fireplace will sit.
- 02
Step 2 of 3
Block seat walls and outdoor fireplace masonry
Our masons built the curved block seat walls along the new paths, then framed the outdoor fireplace in block on a curved seat wall base, with three arched openings and a chimney.
- 03
Step 3 of 3
Paver paths, paver patio and BBQ island
Pavers went down for the paths and for the patio in front of the fireplace, and the crew built an L-shaped outdoor kitchen BBQ island with a view toward the mountains.

Finished
The finished outdoor fireplace and patio
The finished fireplace is plastered in stucco to match the home, with capped seat walls, Artistic Pavers paths and stone steps tying the yard together around the existing pool.
